Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A late 19th century salon sofa, often produced during the late Victorian or Edwardian eras, features lightweight timber framing, elegant neoclassically inspired proportions, and delicate ornamentation such as marquetry or stringing. These settees were designed specifically for formal reception rooms and parlours.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany construction combined with decorative boxwood or satinwood marquetry inlays. Frames were assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, while the upholstered seats relied on woven webbing, horsehair padding, and hand-stitched textile covers.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, delicate hand-fitted marquetry stringing, and natural oxidisation on unpolished undersides. Look for age-appropriate wear and patination on primary touchpoints such as the armrests and front legs.

An antique salon settee works well in an entryway, hallway, or at the foot of a bed. Its slim profile and visible openwork back allow light to pass through, making it an effective accent piece when paired alongside modern, clean-lined furnishings.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting routinely with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Position the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting and timber shrinkage.
