Here we offer an astonishing hand-coloured 'Gold Finches' wood engraving print, from a limited edition (of 1500) by Eric Daglish whose work we enjoy and rate as very special. The plate comes from a review of Birds of Great Britain published in 1948. Framing is included, the plate comes expertly framed in the luxury handmade and hand-finished brushed black frame shown in the pictures.
The European goldfinch or simply the goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) is a small passerine bird in the finch family that is native to Europe, North Africa and western and central Asia. It has been introduced to other areas, including Australia, New Zealand and Uruguay. The breeding male has a red face with black markings around the eyes, and a black-and-white head. The back and flanks are buff or chestnut brown. The black wings have a broad yellow bar. The tail is black and the rump is white. Males and females are very similar, but females have a slightly smaller red area on the face. The goldfinch is often depicted in Italian Renaissance paintings of the Madonna and Child.
The lithograph is mounted in a luxury handmade, hand-finished gold frame with a confidently proportioned decorated mount. A fine off-white mount has been added as a sophisticated contrast for the plate. The archival acid-free materials and professional techniques used to protect and frame this work will ensure that it continues to be enjoyed for many decades to come.
As standard the frame comes with regular framing float glass (meaning the glass normally used by professional framing studios) however for an additional 10 this can be upgraded to museum quality glass having low reflection, amazing colour intensity and high U.V. absorption to protect the work.
A timeless and effortlessly sophisticated collection of highly decorative and professionally framed fine, rare, old and vintage hand coloured lithographs, chromolithographs, lithographs and etchings.
