Description

This large tent-bag or 'chuval' was made circa 1880 by Ersary Turkmen inhabiting the middle Amu Darya region of Turkmenistan. The bag has lost its original flat-woven back as often, dealers in the region would take the backs off and sell such large bags as floor rugs. However, I have to say, although sometimes sacrilege, it is easier to use them as floor rugs without their bulky plain-weave backs! This bag-face is in excellent pile all over and the natural colours and wool are superb - glossy and sumptuous.
