Early 20th Century Oriental Carved Teak and Camphor Wood Chest

1900 - 1920
Description

An extremely good quality Oriental freestanding teak chest abundantly and deeply carved with scenes of children and elders, warriors on horseback, flowers, trees, pagodas and boat within a cherry blossom border on guardian lions feet. The chest retains its original decoratively embossed brass back plate and latch and comes with its original lock and key. The interior of the chest has a removable tray and is lined in camphor wood which has a lovely aroma.

Inside the chest is the owners surname 'Cregeen' and an accompanying photograph of Robert Cregeen and his son Robert Cregeen Jr. The photo is dated from 1903 and was taken at Port Erin in Isle of Man. The father and son worked at mariners and fishermen.
