Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 19th century, particularly during the Victorian and French Napoleon III eras, faux bamboo furniture was created by carving turned hardwoods to imitate imported bamboo, satisfying the Western fashion for Orientalist aesthetics.

These high chairs were typically constructed from turned hardwoods such as beech, maple, or birch carved to resemble bamboo joints, fitted with hand-woven natural rattan cane seats and solid timber footrests.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned wooden nodes, traditional dowel joinery, original hand-woven cane seats, and natural wear or colour oxidation consistent with age along structural joints.

An antique high chair can be styled as a decorative accent piece in an empty corner, utilised as a unique plant display, or positioned in a hallway or nursery to add historical texture.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply clear beeswax polish annually. To preserve the woven cane seat, lightly moisten the underside with water periodically to retain flexibility and prevent brittle cracking.
