Fine Small Welsh Wall Spice Cupboard, Circa 1760

Description

Welsh wall-hanging spice cupboard in the reddish-brown native oak typical of Montgomeryshire, and of the standard local form but of exceptional and individual quality. The bold cornice is above a single door with an inlaid diamond motif between a pair of arched raised-and-fielded panels, over a rectangualr raised-and-fielded panel, with a base moulding below. The fitted interior has a most unusual shaped surround to the top section, which has a shaped shelf with large holes for bottles, with a shelf below with three compartments, and a further shelf below that. Parts of the interior as well as the backboard are in elm.

(Replaced lower hinge and minor historical repairs).

Wonderful colour and surface patination.
