The trunk has a long, elegant door with a beautiful bevel edged glass showing us the pendulum and weights. Above the door we have a little panel of carving then the hood. This has amazing sound frets each side to allow the beautiful chimes to be heard and these delicate frets have survived perfectly. A superb ball finial just finishes the clock off at the very top.The clock has three brass cased weights; one to drive the clock itself, another for the quarter chiming and the last one for the hour chiming. These weights are most attractive and the pulleys carrying them are also finished to a very high standard. The metal rod pendulum has an attractive brass bob and can be seen swinging behind the glass. The dial is well decorated with fine cast spandrels in the corners and to the arch. The centre has a main silvered chapter ring with applied black Arabic numerals; seconds are shown with a subsidiary dial, delicate hands indicate the time. The centre of the dial has a pierced and engraved fret with the retailer’s name Dent. The movement is superbly made in every way; it has four huge pillars holding the heavy brass plates; these have the three trains of the clock, large barrels holding the wire supported weights and superb wheelwork up to the adjustable air breaks (these can be opened or closed to speed up or slow down the hour or quarter chimes). The centre chain has a beat adjuster and has maintaining power (this keeps the clock running during the winding up to protect the escapement and make for a more accurate clock, a refinement seen only on the finest clocks!) To each side of the dial we have a small lever which can be used to turn off the quarter chimes (right hand one) or the hour chimes (left hand lever). Dimensions :- Max.Height... 82.75''/ 210.5cm. Width... 21.5''/ 54.5cm. Depth...15''/ 38cm. Delivery to most of U.K. mainland £85.
