Description

This good quality Chinese hardwood carved figure depicts a fisherman bear foot and dressed in traditional robes. He has a long flowing beard and his hair drawn up and tied on the top of his head. He has a very happy expression showing finely inlaid carved bone teeth. He has been successful with his work. In one hand, he has a woven bamboo fish trap and in the other a large fish that he has just removed from the trap. He is standing on a naturalistic pierced rocky base all carved from one block of hardwood. This figure shows good detail and is in good condition with a few very minor age related shrinkage cracks. It has a well polished patination and a rich colour. Signed with Chinese character on the underside. C 1900
