WWII Japanese Officers Chin-Gunto Katana.
This is a un-usual Japanese officers katana or Shin-Gunto from late WWII
The katana or Shin-Gunto Tsuka (handle) is made of a thick brown bound leather, a iron Fuchi
(sleeve) and a brass cone shaped Kashira (pommel) with a steel Sarute (pommel ring).
A brass standard Tsuba (guard) with a Lotus blossom decoration.
The blade is of a inferior standard compared with earlier types of katana blades, as it is factory
made there is no Hamon (temper line) however its is very sharp, and the blade is well used as
traces of sharping etc. can been seen and found.
The Saya (scabbard) is also covered in a thick brown leather, and iron mounts and belt ring,
Original leather cord and woven cotton cord still remaining attached.
Length of the blade: approx. 66cm - length of the handle incl. the Tsuba: approx. 29.5cm - overall
length: approx. 102cm
