"Liverpool flush" handles to the sides, brass escutcheons and plaque to the front, the top lid having shaped brass corners and central brass plaque. The original hinges and locks, with the original glazing to the upper tier.
The fully serviced and rated freesprung 8 day movement with diamond endstone to a blued steel helical hairspring, to a cut bi-metallic balance with trapezoidal timing weights and Earnshaw type spring detent escapement with maintaining power and chain fusee.
Mounted in a polished brass gimballed bowl with rotating winding aperture cover and glazed brass bezel.
The signed and numbered silvered Roman and Arabic dial with running seconds and 7 day state of winding subsidiaries, with blued steel hands.

Robert and William Roskell worked from their shop at 21 to 23 Church street Liverpool from 1805 to 1873, although Robert worked under his own name from 31 Church Street in 1839. The Liverpool Directory records the company as being R & J Roskell from 1796-1851 and in 1848 became Roskell and Son of 21 Church Street.
Robert Roskell Sr. is one of the most famous Liverpool retailers and manufacturers of hi-grade marine chronometers. He was a man of energy and enterprise and was a collector of extraordinary horologium.
Robert Roskell was based at 21 Church Street, Liverpool and also maintained premises in London. He was known to be working from 1798-1800 and made numerous high-quality watches signed “Roskell, Liverpool”. He was also a well-known retailer of clocks. He entered a partnership with John Roskell from 1805-1821 and took his son (Robert Jr) into partnership from 1825-1834 as Roskell and Son. As a retailer, Roskell sold all styles including bracket, longcase, carriage, and night-watchman’s clocks. Examples of Roskell watches can be seen at the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers’ collection at the Guildhall in London (item 475) and at Bury St Edmunds Manor House Museum.
