Antique Vienna Carriage Clock with Quarter Repeating, Alarm, and Fusee Movement with a Fire Gold Plated Case

18th century
Description

Antique Vienna Carriage Clock with Quarter Repeating, Alarm, and Fusee Movement With a Fire Gold Plated Case.

This superb antique Vienna carriage clock has a fire gold plated case with a beautiful engine turned pattern all over. The top is then shaped with a shaped, fire gold plated handle. Each edge of the body of the case is then finished by a patterned, fire gold plated moulding. The base then steps out with a further moulding to the bottom as well as four stunning, shaped and gnarled feet which set it off beautifully. Finally there is a wonderful shaped mount to the front of the case.

The dial is then gilt also with a stunning engine turned centre as well as a beautiful patterned surround. It is set out in black Roman numerals with thin dashed to the outside marking the minutes. The dial then has three lovely shaped hands (for the minutes, hour, and to set the alarm) and a round bevelled glass set into a shaped bezel. Finally the dial is signed “ROHR IN PEST” to the bottom.

The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is ticking away via a balance wheel as well as chiming both the quarter past, half past, quarter to and the hour via and gong and bell. For example quarter past 3 would be one gong strike followed by three bell strikes. These chimes can then be repeated via the button to the top of the case. The movement then has an alarm feature that can be set via the third hand on the dial. Finally the movement has a strike silent feature that can be turned on or off via the small lever to the top right of the dial. The movement consists of both fusee and spring driven component and is one of the most complex movement I have ever seen.

This truly stunning carriage clock is of the upmost rarity and would look fantastic in any home or as part of a larger collection.

It measures approximately:

- 8.25” / 21cm Tall.

- 5.25” / 13.25cm Wide.

- 3.5” / 9cm Deep.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
