Fowey River Antiques has dated this piece to the 1750s.
~~ Fully restored and serviced ~~
The case has been fully restored and is made of quarter sawn english oak with beautiful figuring which has mellowed over the centuries into a warm colour, the grain and patina is just superb.

The case is decorated with with ebony and satinwood stringing with mahogany crosbanding, this theme is carried on through the trunk, door and base which also has fine mahogany crossbanding.
The case is enhanced with reeded ebonised corners and ebonised pillars to the hood. It also has a fully working lock and key.

The hood still retains its original glass which has that slight rippling effect that you only see in very old glass.
The clock dial is of polished solid brass with decorative corner spandrels and silvered chapter ring, of course it is fully marked Samuel Austin Rumsey the old spelling for Romsey.

It has a superb 8 day movement with working seconds and date indication. The clock strikes the hours on a large bell and is keeping good time.
The clock is in full working order and has just been serviced so it should give many years of trouble free service.

The clock movement comes with a full 12 month warranty, full setting up instructions and telephone help if required.
