Large Chestnut & Fruitwood Coffer C.1820

19th century
Description

Long low early 19th.c. French coffer or dower chest c.1820. Could be used as a seat with storage in a hallway or below a window perhaps or as a stand for a big TV. Flat (rather than panelled) lid made from two thick chestnut boards opening to reveal useful storage inside. Fruitwood panels across the front with moulded rails and mullions and broad stiles all in chestnut. Flat fruitwood panelled sides and rear. Chestnut floor boards. Very good condition with later hinges and shield shaped brass escutcheon. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
