Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-20th century, Italian artisans combined traditional lacquer techniques with silversmithing to produce decorative gaming accessories. These pieces often featured stylised motifs of playing cards, suit symbols, and figurative imagery influenced by late Art Deco design movements.

Mid-century game boxes were typically constructed from solid hardwoods finished with multi-layered black or coloured lacquer. Decorative lid panels were crafted from solid or plated silver, incorporating enamel detailing to highlight playing card suits and figures.

Authentic mid-century Italian silver items usually display official hallmarks, such as a star alongside a province code, or an 800 stamp denoting silver purity. The silver plaque may also feature a maker signature alongside precise enamel work embedded within relief carving.

A decorative card box functions as an accent piece when displayed on a coffee table, sideboard top, or within a library bookcase. It can be paired with contemporary tray arrangements or stacked design books to add structural interest and dark-toned texture.

Dust the lacquer surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical cleaners that could cloud the high-gloss finish. Clean the silver inset cautiously using a silver polishing cloth, ensuring compounds do not contact the enamel accents.
