Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
It is very well made, and is as good an example as you are likely to see.
The brass plaque on the top is engraved ‘Mrs C Scotland’. There are also very strong brass handles on the sides made to transport this around, they are definitely strong enough for purpose.

This is a great size, it would be very useful as a coffee table, as a blanket chest or as hallway storage.
We have had this re-polished and it is in beautiful condition for its age. Camphor wood is known for its lovely fragrance, and when you open this, it does smell amazing! This has a gorgeous colour and lovely grain patterns, there are various small marks and indentations here and there, commensurate for age.
