An Antique Milners Deed Chest in a stunning restored condition.
This No1 size deed box is the smallest book safe available from Milners' in the 1830's.

The Milners safes were some of the best in its class and at one stage regarded to be one of the largest safe manufacturers in the world. The Milners name still continues today as Chatwood-Milners under the Chubb group brand since 1958.

The safe features its original stamp pressed trademark Milners emblems and original handles either side complete with "milners' Liverpool" stamps below. This safe was originally made as a portable book safe as books were a valuable commodity back when this safe was produced. This small strongbox is also ideal for storing important paperwork, deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash or even jewellery and is fire and thief resistant.

Included with this safe is a vintage bronze Yale pad lock with 1 key which is in lovely working condition.
Originally this safe was made from tin-plated steel which we have sympathetically restored as close to the original finish as possible whilst leaving the original patina and have only enhanced what was there. The safe has been linished and then been laquered with an aged polish to preserve the lightly polished metal finish whilst keeping the metal patina. The inside of the safe is completely original and in fantastic condition with only cleaning being carried out.

This safe also features the original paper brochure attached to the underside of the lid, which lists the provenance of Milners as a brand and a brief insight into the other safes the produced with prices even being listed which were current in around C1836.

We believe this safe was originally bought for 19 shillings and 6 pence according to the price list. The prices seem comical now, however, at the time these safes would have cost a lot of money accounting for inflation.

This safe would look fabulous in a loft-style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests.
Please note; This item is in very good condition for its age but will obviously have the odd blemish and scuff here and there, however, we feel that this adds to the charm and authenticity of the item with it being antique.

Also note: The books are not included in the sale.
