Aramis Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The tapering body has alternate panels of deep star cutting and a baroque foliage engraved design. As the jug widens, the base is cut with concave lobes above a wide star cut base.

The silver plate mount comprises the collar, spout, hinged lid, handle and waistband. The baroque foliage design is repeated around the collar and spout. The superb handle is moulded with a grapevine and scrolling design. The lid is a plain dome with beaded rings topped by a dome finial with a similar beaded ring.

The handle is firmly stabilised by a silver plated waistband around the jug. The hinge works perfectly.
Tall and elegant, there is no damage, the condition is excellent. This is a most decorative but useful addition to the dining table.
