Edwardian Shop Fitting Bookcase

1900 - 1920

Very attractive Edwardian mahogany shop fitting which has been re-structured probably in the 1990's. Most of the restoration is to the bookcase top of which only the doors are original whilst most of the top and sides have been cabinet made to a high standard. This is not unusual with shop fittings as many were fitted into alcoves etc. Overall it looks really well and could be used for many purposes. Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian shop fitting bookcases were manufactured for retail environments during the early 20th century, combining visible storage with glass-fronted display areas to present goods to customers.

These pieces typically utilise solid timbers such as mahogany, oak, or pine, built with mortise and tenon joinery, raised panel doors, brass fittings, and clear sheet glass panels.

Authentic examples demonstrate commercial scale, brass turn latches, hand-planed tongue-and-groove backboards, straight side profiles, and painted interior shelf sections.

A large glazed shop cabinet functions as a functional storage piece in a dining area, kitchen, or library, suited for organizing glassware, ceramics, or book collections.

Dust the wooden framework regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a neutral wax polish annually along the grain, and clean glass panes using a cloth lightly dampened with glass cleaner.
