In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian mahogany buffet cabinet is a piece of 19th-century dining room furniture designed with open tiered shelving and integrated cupboard storage. Popularised during the mid-to-late Victorian era, these pieces served as mobile or stationary stations for serving food and storing dinnerware during formal meals.

Victorian buffets were primarily constructed from solid Cuban or Honduran mahogany, often finished with rich French polish. Structural elements typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, lathe-turned reeded or fluted columns, solid back panels, and brass castors with ceramic or bone wheels.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-turned uprights, natural wood grain variation beneath aged polish, and period-correct hardware such as brass locks, key escutcheons, and ceramic castors. Inspecting drawer sides for hand-saw marks and checking cabinet backs for hand-planed timber boards help verify 19th-century origin.

To integrate a Victorian mahogany buffet into contemporary schemes, place it against a neutral or deep dark wall for high contrast. Utilize the open top shelf for minimalist decorative ceramics or lamps, while storing modern barware or table linens out of sight within the lower cabinet.

Dust regularly using a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth along the grain. Preserve the original finish by applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year, avoiding modern chemical sprays or water, and position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage or fading.
