Description

A late Victorian walnut and oak bookcase dating to c1880. In excellent condition, and with pleasing and useful narrow dimensions, the frame is made of oak with three fixed-in shelf spaces. The top is veneered with burr walnut surrounded by chevron line inlay and cross banded in figured walnut. The top is cantilevered over a crossbanded walnut frieze. The sides are oak but veneered in walnut with really beautiful figuring, each side with figured walnut crossbanding. . The solid back is framed for strength and stability. The shelves are edged with a double walnut feeding. The shelves are fixed with an inner dimension of 63cm width and a height dimension of 33cm for each shelf.

This a very attractive bookcase, with the quality capable of display along the wall of a room, rather than out of sight or in a corner. And while not small, it is not large either. Very pleasing.
