Aramis Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The top is veneered with burr walnut surrounded by chevron line inlay and cross banded in figured walnut. The top is cantilevered over a crossbanded walnut frieze. The sides are oak but veneered in walnut with really beautiful figuring, each side with figured walnut crossbanding. . The solid back is framed for strength and stability. The shelves are edged with a double walnut feeding. The shelves are fixed with an inner dimension of 63cm width and a height dimension of 33cm for each shelf.
This a very attractive bookcase, with the quality capable of display along the wall of a room, rather than out of sight or in a corner. And while not small, it is not large either. Very pleasing.
