Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, or dressing mirror, is a small tabletop mirror designed to sit atop a dressing table, chest of drawers, or cabinet to assist with personal grooming. Popularised in the late 17th and 18th centuries, these pieces often feature swivelling frames supported by upright posts and set upon decorative wooden bases.

Fine 18th and 19th-century dressing mirrors typically feature figure-rich burr walnut veneers laid over a pine or oak core, often decorated with stringing and crossbanded borders. The mirror plates were historically silvered glass, held in place with timber backings and brass adjustment fittings.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-craftsmanship, such as hand-cut dovetail joints on base drawers, secondary pine or oak timbers visible beneath veneers, and natural oxidisation on the silvered mirror glass. Upright supports often feature hand-turned finials or brass tension screws.

Place the mirror atop a modern console table, bedroom dresser, or wide windowsill to introduce warm wood grain and historical texture to the space. Combining rich walnut tones with neutral walls or minimalist decor helps highlight the frames silhouette.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to preserve the patinated finish.
