This small collector’s chest of drawers is very pleasing to the eye. It is constructed in red hardwood which is heavy and dense. The chest stands on a shaped and moulded plinth with three drawers above and a moulded solid top. All the surfaces on this beautiful piece have been hand inlaid with cut pieces of shimmering mother of pearl in geometric patterns which are matched throughout the top, sides, and front. Each drawer is finished with a finely turned central knob. The drawers open to reveal a plain solid interior simply constructed and held together with nails. This is typical of locally made pieces made for the English market often brought home as mementos from early travel, big game hunting, or military service. A useful and decorative piece with rich colour and superb patination. In good condition, circa 1920.
