Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The rear ones are similar but of a plainer form. The legs are connected with a shaped apron to the sides and front which also has a large decorative carved central shell. The lower stand Is fitted with a single large drawer above the upper section has four matching graduated drawers all fitted with original fancy brass handles and matching escutcheons. The cornice is finely moulded and stepped and decorated with two bands of cross banding around its edge. Hidden within the cornice is a large slender secret drawer. This rare early piece is beautifully made in dense solid mahogany with all the drawer linings in oak. The timber is well figured with rich colour and well patinated surfaces. Circa 1750
