Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An ebonised drum mantel clock features a circular movement casing mounted atop a plinth or pedestal base, finished with a black stain or lacquer to imitate ebony wood. Popularised during the 19th century, this style reflects classical revival architectural influences.

Victorian ebonised clocks were generally constructed using fruitwood, pine, or mahogany cases treated with ebonising lacquer or stain. They frequently incorporate brass bezels, glass dial covers, and cast metal movement components.

Authentic 19th-century mantel clocks typically exhibit hand-assembled mechanical movements, hand-painted or enamelled dials, and period maker marks. Natural age-related wear to the ebonised finish and brass components also indicates period authenticity.

An ebonised mantel clock serves as a strong graphic focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, minimalist sideboard, or dark wooden bookcase. Its monochrome tone pairs seamlessly with modern neutral palettes, marble surfaces, and brass decorative accents.

Clean the ebonised case regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust without scratching the finish. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture, and maintain mechanical components through professional horological servicing.
