Antique Collectables 19thc Marine IVory Sailors Netting Fid. Yorkshire C1840-60

A skillful piece of sailors work is this nicely carved fid, which is used to hold open knots and holes in canvas, and to separate the ''lays'' of natural rope for splicing.....it is made of ''marine ivory'' and is pointed at one end and has a carved decorative pattern at the other....excellent condition.
 
English / Yorkshire. C1840-60.
