The chest features a solid outer pine frame, boasting profuse steel strapping to the front, sides and rear and retains the original iron carrying handles to each side of the trunk. The chest also retains the original working steel lock & key with the original brass oval key escutcheon, which is all in good working order. The interior of the trunk retains its original and complete zinc lining, which it suggests it may have been used on a ship or campaigns for safe clean storage of valuables. The lid retains the original steel hinges and support bar, allowing you to open the trunk and support the lid and hinges, without damaging them (a very clever design idea!). The original trunk floor is comprised of two solid planks with the original narrow runners below to keep it off the floor. Boasting a lovely warm rustic colour, the trunk has been cleaned and wax-polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop.
