A charming Turkish prayer rug, around 200 years old, woven in or near the village of Ghiordes in Western Turkey. A beautiful, abrashed, green field sits like a window into the universe in the middle of the rug, surrounded by various borders of flowers and eye-catching stripes. A single cloud band motif poised above the niche reminds us of earlier times, to which this rug is definitely connected. Worn and with several small repairs, nevertheless, a characterful and highly decorative ancient rug, at a give away price.

Note the small water jugs on the edge of the field, another unusual feature
