Wonderful Antique Miniature Tea Caddy C.1880 - Austrian Pietra Dura - Marienbad

Description

A stunning miniature tea caddy made from Walnut and measuring just 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 2" tall. The top is inset with a variety of specimen stones arranged and polished in Pietra Dura style. There is a central stone engraved with the Austrian spa town of Marienbad ; this would have been a grand tour souvenir purchased by a wealthy traveller in the 19th century.

There is a polished silver metal border framing the stones complimenting the escutcheon which houses the original key.

The interior is a joy with it's two tiny lidded compartments, each containing a little loose tea, which I will leave intact.

A wonderful addition to any tea caddy collection in excellent condition (a tiny dint to the silver metal trim, mentioned purely for accuracy).
