Description

An interesting and attractive mid-19th century engraved gilded four-portrait PHOTOGRAPH FRAME, possibly by Betjemann.

The two oval hinged ‘frames’ which, when closed, are inset with pietra dura panels of lilies and forget-me-nots in marble, open out to reveal four oval frames within, whilst the whole frame is beautifully pierced and engraved.

It is supported on a hinged easel to the back, which is engraved with the retailer: Austin & Co of Dublin. 7ins wide; 5.5ins high. (18x14cms). c1860-1875. (NB: the photographs illustrated are magazine cuttings and not period miniatures!)
