A Rare Early Georgian Figured Walnut Writing Table C 1750

This superb early English figured walnut small writing table is of a most unusual design having both a drawer and a writing slide. The top is quarter veneered in book-matched figured walnut with a herringbone inlay and finished with a cross banded boarder. The simple moulded edge has carved re-entrant corners which have been produced in short grain timber showing quality. The front and sides are all veneered vertically, this follows through the writing slide, parting rails, and the drawer. The drawer is fitted with an original lock, escutcheon, and handles, all in brass. The table stands on four high taper turned legs with a shaped bracket at the top and well carved pad feet. The proportions of this early piece are very good and are a rare small size. It has a wonderful colour and patination and is in good condition with no breaks or damage. English, circa 1750
