JULES ANTOINE PELLETIER (1825 – 1887)

An outstanding large signed oil on canvas by Jules Antoine Pelletier the french painter and pupil of Thomas Couture. This work dates to around 1860 and depcits a portrait of a group of Harem girls in the courtyard of a Riad. This beautiful work is superbly painted and etailed and finely coloured. Its signed lower left and is unlined on its original canvas. Museum quality.

Medium: Oil on original canvas

Size: c. 22 x 26 inches unframed

Condition: Unlined original canvas – some small repairs otherwise very good for age

Born c. 1825, in Amsterdam, to French parents.

Painter. Portraits, landscapes with figures, still-lifes (flowers).

Jules Pelletier was a pupil of Louis Henri de Rudder and Thomas Couture. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1848 to 1880. Pelletier was famous for his paintings of flowers, and of roses in particular.
