Fabulous Georgian silver tankard or mug with hallmarks for London 1804 and maker’s mark for Samuel & George Whitfield. It is also hall marked with the George III head.

The classic tapering shape is enhanced by two bands of reeding, with an additional band just under the rim. The beautiful and generous scrolled and 3 dimensional handle extends from top to base. The interior is gilt lined, a mark of quality. The hallmarks are clear and the condition is excellent. The gauge of silver is substantial.

Possibly it was a birth or christening gift or a small tankard for ale.
