Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Parian ware is a type of unglazed porcelain developed in the 1840s, named after Paros, the Greek island famed for white marble. It was created to imitate carved marble statues at a larger production scale during the Victorian era.

Parian figures were produced by casting liquid slip into plaster moulds, allowing intricate details to be captured. The high feldspar content in the ceramic body gave the fired material a marble-like sheen without requiring a surface glaze.

Authentic 19th-century Parian ware features a silky, translucent surface finish resembling white marble with clear detail in the drapery and features. Look for impressed maker marks or registration marks along the base, along with a light-transmitting quality when held to light.

These white monochrome sculptures work well displayed on a fireplace mantelpiece, styled atop books on a bookshelf, or placed on a console table alongside contrasting dark wood accents.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth. For deeper cleaning, use lukewarm water with a mild soap applied gently using a soft cotton swab, avoiding immersion or abrasive sponges that could mark the porous surface.
