The chest boasts a three-plank primitive moulded top, above five drawers in a two-over-three configurations. Each drawer level is constructed to appear as two separate drawers but are in fact a single full-width drawer, separated by a key escutcheon and working lock and key.

The drawer fronts are decorated with mitred geometric moulded panels and fruitwood centres, flanked by a simple oak frame; all of which is typical of this period. Each drawer features a different design. The drawers incorporate old replacement brass drop ring handles, shaped foliate brass back plates and coat of arms key escutcheons. The drawers are oak lined. The chest features solid inset panel sides, along with the original backboards and floor. The chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze and is raised on old replacement bun feet to the front, with original length styles to the rear. The frame of the chest has been built using the traditional peg construction method. The chest breaks down into two sections, allowing for easier access, especially upstairs.

Condition Report:
Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brass pear-drop handles, foliate backplates and coat of arms key escutcheons are old replacements. The drawers retain the original oak drawer linings. There are working locks to all four drawers (with a key). The chest stands on later replacement bun feet at the front, with the original length stiles to the rear. Chests of drawers of this age usually have replacement feet due to the period of time they have stood on damp floors. The sides, backboards and floor on the chest are original. Two additional horizontal oak boards have been added onto the back of the chest to help support the frame. Overall, this item is solid in joint and is ready to use.
