Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency cellarette is a wooden chest designed to store and chill wine bottles in formal dining rooms during the early 19th century. The sarcophagus form, inspired by classical Roman and Egyptian antiquities, became particularly prominent in British furniture design during the Regency era.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often finished with flame mahogany veneers. The interiors were originally lined with zinc or lead to hold ice and water without damaging the timber frame.

Authentic Regency examples display period woodworking features such as hand-cut dovetail joints, flame mahogany veneers, and classical sarcophagus shaping. Key hallmarks also include original brass escutcheons, internal lead lining or residual oxidisation marks, and natural hand-rubbed patina on the timber.

A cellarette functions well as an occasional side piece in a dining room, hallway, or study. It can be positioned beneath a sideboard, placed in an empty corner, or used as a standalone accent box to house spirits and glassware.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain, and avoid using abrasive liquid cleaners on the original finish.
