Description

Its very unusual to find an antique carpet in good pile, even more so when it is a beautiful 'Serapi' So named by the American trade for these types of high quality Heriz weavings reminded them of the spiky designs more commonly seen in handwoven Mexican blankets (Serape).

Beautifully sparse, elegant open field is nearly filled by a pale terracotta medallion, within pale terracotta borders Highlights of pale blue, pale yellow and pale green subtly liven up what appears at first glance to be a monotone palette. A few random small flowers in the open field simultaneously draw attention to and break up a pure, unbroken ivory field.

The uneven drawing of the medallion and the corner pieces emphasises the tribal nature of these rare carpets and the powerful, naive art.

With minimal repairs, this extraordinary carpet is clean and ready for your home.
