Description

There is something about zig-zags that I find most appealing - particularly when the colours are all organic and the weaver has created something spontaneous with great movement of colour as can be seen here. I've always believed that the zig-zags symbolically represented flowing water and this can be seen, not only in the central field, but also in the border design.

Bread sofrehs were specifically made for kneading the dough on before baking the 'lavash' or circular bread, and this sofreh was made around 1900 by an Afshar woman in Kerman Province, southern Persia.

Size: 1.06m x 1.23m (3' 6" x 4' 0").
