Description

This 'tubreh' or small storage-bag, was woven in soumak technique by Kordi tribes, descendants of the Kurds who were forcibly moved from Kurdistan to Khorassan in the 1500s, in order to guard that part of north-east Persia from the incursions of Turkmen and Uzbeks who were wont to plunder in that area.

Made around the early twentieth century, and just arrived from Iran, the bag is in near-mint condition, complete with its fabulous plain-weave back, depicting two rows of deer or gazelle.
