Description

A beautiful and very wearable antique necklace by the highly collectible Anglo-German jewellery firm Murrle Bennett and Company (1896-1916), a supplier to Liberty and Co which was particularly known for its high quality Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts pieces.

The English Arts & Crafts movement (c.1880-1910) championed hand made pieces with an emphasis on craftsmanship and the aesthetics of design to create beauty rather than intrinsically valuable materials such as diamonds. Natural baroque pearls, silver and uncut stones were considered preferable to precious gemstones and peacock colours and motifs were especially popular.

The necklace is formed of unusual nine-carat gold links adorned with unique natural pearls and aquamarine beads.

Marked "9CT MB&Co".

In excellent antique condition, with fully functional springring clasp.

Length: 17.5 inches (approx 44cm). Each gem is unique but the aquamarines on average measure around 7 x 6mm.
