Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Globular Koro By Honda Yosaburo

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large and fine quality Meiji period 1868-1912 cloisonné enamel koro, the koro firmly attributed to the highly regarded artist Honda Yosaburo, a well known artist who rather frustratingly rarely signed his work, perhaps he was manufacturing for a commission or presentation as was often the case, regardless of lack of signature the piece certainly does not lack stature and quality, the wire work is exceptional and finished in painstaking detail throughout, the boldly decorated body stands upon three gilt legs and is predominantly decorated in stylized flora and gilt wire butterflies upon a blood red enamel, three main vignettes each decorated with creatures  including a dragon, lion dog and Phoenix ,the lappets to the neck and lid are exquisitely detailed,  the interior has been counter enameled in a green lava type of technique and bears an old collectors label , the lid surmounted by a Namikawa style gilded ...
