Fabulous Victorian Sterling Silver Vanity Box - 1887

Description

This striking sterling silver box was retailed by the famous Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company or 112 Regent St., London, signed on the underside. It is here too that the full English sterling silver hallmark can be found for Birmingham 1887, making this a true Victorian example; the makers mark D & F can be seen for top-notch silversmith Deakin & Francis.

The box is beautifully decorated on the lid with a shield-shaped cartouche and various repousse floral, foliate and scroll work.

The box is quite wonderful on the inside too with a clean and stunning gilded finish.

Excellent condition, measuring 2 1/2" tall with a base diameter of 2 1/2".
