A Stunning English Georgian Solid Silver Salver Tray with Rococo Decoration - William Eaton 1818

18th century
Description

We are delighted to have acquired and be able to offer this stunning English Georgian solid silver salver tray made by William Eaton in London, 1818.

This salver, whilst relatively compact in size, presents the grandest and magnificent features of the Rococo revival period (approx 1811-1830 England).

To begin with, the entire salver is crafted with a very good gauge of silver - a thick, heavy and sturdy feel is apparent upon holding in person.

The outer cast border is made in Rococo fashion with the incredibly ornate and artistic decoration of flowers, leaves and stippled motifs.

Equally matching, the three feet of the salver are made in the most desirable form with an exquisite design of further floral decorations.

The centre of the salver is presented 'plain', creating the most wonderful aesthetic contrast between the embellished border and mirror-like surface upon which a magnificent coat of arms have been hand engraved. The engraving is the martial arms of Wildman and Oakes

The versatile shape and size of this salver allows for many modern-day uses, none less than for sweets, cards, jewellery and any further creative ways you may come up with.

The tray is hallmarked on the reverse side with full English hallmarks.

One of our favourite pieces of exemplary fine English silverware with intricacy and finesse presented in each and every area. Rich with ornate decoration and with equally matching heavy quality, this salver is ideal for uncompromising collections or as a practical piece of silverware to embellish your dining table/home interior.

*All images with other wares are for display purposes only - these pieces may be purchased separately.

One note; the 'scraped' area on the rear side of the salver is not a later damage/defect but as a result of an original action by an assay master performing assay testing. In order to guarantee and confirm the silver content is of passing standard (925) the assay master would scrape (hopefully a non-disruptive) area of the silverware to test for its purity/contents. Interestingly enough, the remnants of the silver scrapes would be kept upon the retirement of the assay masters and as such some individuals would scrape as much as 'reasonably possible' which led to very large marks, more than really necessary as is the case with this item.
