We are delighted to offer this magnificent large solid sterling silver basket made by Samuel Hennell in London, 1811.

This impressive basket features an array of highly desirable characteristics ranging from the use of a very sturdy gauge of silver for its formation to the fine gadrooned edge.

The bowl section is supported by a large and sturdy pedestal foot that has been elegantly shaped.

The basket presents a wonderful contrast of a mirror-like 'plain' finish in the centre and the ornate gadrooned edge, interrupted with floral and foliate scroll motifs.

The handle of the basket is equally stylish with further foliate decorations and a central Acanthus leaf motif. The handle is stood well on its own and allows for a luxurious serving experience.

The centre of the basket is left plain with a spectacular hand-engraved coat of arms with the family motto "Nil Desperandum".

Due to the large size of the basket, in the modern-day, it may be used for various purposes from simply a stylish interior display piece to a practical serving basket with your favourite foods and sweets.

The basket is fully hallmarked on the underside will English marks.
