Antique Georgian Solid Silver Sauce Boat, Scottish Baronet Interest - William Shaw 1766

18th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this wonderful Georgian solid silver sauce boat made possibly by William Shaw Ltd in London, 1766.

Unfortunately, the maker's mark is indistinct and thus our best attempt to identify the mark would show William Shaw as the maker - the date and town mark are, however, more distinct.

The sauce boat features a wonderful nautilus inspired design with the body of the sauce boat being raised on a pedestal foot.

The body features a high polished finish with a mirror-like reflection with some fine fluted lines that curve across the sides.

The front side presents the martial arms of a Scottish Baronet, Sir Alexander Purves of that Ilk - the 5th Baronet of Purves Hall.

The handle features an acanthus leaf thumbpiece and the widened foot of the base features a gadrooned design surrounding the edge.

The sauce boat remains in great condition making it ideal for both display and usage with sauces/condiments of your preference.

The hallmarks are present close to the lip of the boat - the maker's mark is indistinct and worn.
