Antique Treen 19thc Turned Elm Sailors Fid. English C1840-60

A fine example of a mid 19thc Elm turned Sailors Fid....this would have been used on board ship to hold open knots and holes in canvas, and to separate the ''lays'' or strands of rope for splicing....decorated simply with ring turning and conical in shape with a pointed end..... it has gained a good colour and is in excellent condition.
English. C1840-60.
