A Sienna Marble Electric Bulle Four-glass Mantel Clock

1920 - 1940
Description

A good quality Sienna marble electric Bulle clock dating circa 1930.

The beautifully figured Sienna marble four-glass case has brass framed bevelled glass panels to all sides, and a glazed hinged brass framed door to the front.

The simple movement is fully displayed, the battery is mounted under the base, hidden from sight.

The original painted dial has Arabic numerals and blued-steel hands, it is signed BULLE-CLOCK, BREVETÉ SGDG, PATENTED, FRANCE, the signed movement is visible through the centre cut-out.

This pioneering electro-magnetic movement design was patented in 1920 by Favre-Bulle, and during the period 1920 to 1952 it is estimated that production was in the region of 300,000 clocks.

The pendulum consists of a coil which passes over the curved bar magnet with three poles (North at either end and South in the centre, or vice versa).

An electrical current is briefly imparted to the coil, it is attracted towards one end of the bar, it then naturally falls back to (and over-runs) the centre, when the impulse is again imparted to attract it to the other end.

Condition:

The clock is in very good original condition with the movement fully serviced by our FBHI horologist and in good working order.

There is a small oyster chip to the top of the bevelled glass to the left and right hand side of the case (see the images).

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
