This Victorian teak military chest was made circa 1870

The Victorian teak military chest would have been commissioned / purchased from a specialist military officers outfitters Army & Navy stores or the like.

It was made in 2 parts so that it could be put in its own travelling cases to send on its trips around the world.

Made of teak, a wood that is very good for its use as it is resistant to seawater and being a hardwood it was resistant to the knocks it was bound to receive.

It is fitted a pair of half width drawers with a full length drawer under these, the bottom section is fitted with 2 full width drawers, all with the original part inset handles and fully flush corners.

Imagine the stories this could tell of the escapades it had been through, and how it was carted around the world as the Officer was posted to different conflicts of the day.
