Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in the late 19th century, a Victorian rise and fall standard lamp is a brass or metal floor-standing light fixture equipped with a height-adjustable telescopic column. These lamps allowed users to adjust the height of the light source for task reading or ambient room illumination.

Victorian rise and fall standard lamps were primarily constructed from solid brass, copper, or cast iron, often featuring weighted bases for stability. The mechanisms utilised internal locking screws or counterweights, with decorative fluting, reeding, and cast ornamentation applied to the structural stems and tripod feet.

Authentic 19th-century examples display heavy cast brass construction, hand-cut screw threads, and visible signs of age or natural oxidisation on the metal surface. Original rise and fall mechanisms typically feature thumb screws or collar locks, and the base will usually incorporate heavy cast iron weights beneath the decorative brass shell.

A Victorian brass floor lamp works well in modern interiors when placed beside an armchair or settee to create a dedicated reading corner. Pairing the polished or patinated brass tone with modern upholstery or deep dark wall paint adds visual contrast and texture to living rooms or study spaces.

Dust the brass regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical abrasives that can strip the surface finish. To preserve polished brass, apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax, and ensure any electrical rewiring is performed by a qualified electrician using period-style fabric-flex cabling.
