Description
A Good Quality English Early 19th Century Regency Period Mahogany Boat Shaped Canterbury Having Elegant Square Supports Over One Frieze Drawer With Replacement Brass Knobs Raised On Turned Legs With Retaining Original Brass Castors (It is widely believed that canterburies are named as such due to the first object of this design being commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the late 18th century. Although the original format is believed to have had divisions in both directions with the purpose of holding cutlery for the dining room, things soon progressed and they started being manufactured mainly for the storage of sheet music. In modern times of course a Canterbury makes the perfect vehicle for storage of newspapers and magazines. This is a nice, clean, elegant example and is good quality constructed from nice Mahogany. Another nice feature is the “boat shaped” design and the retention of it’s original brass castors.) Circa 1810 Height - 20in Width - 18in Depth - 12in A Careful Selection Of High Quality Town And Country Furniture For The Home From The 17th, 18th, 19th And Early 20th Centuries.
