Exceptional 'Pride Of Lion Cubs' Large Wildlife Oil Painting By 'Silvia Duran'
Brief Description:
This is an outstanding quality large original Wildlife Oil on Canvas Painting depicting a Pride of small inquisitive Lion cubs within a naturalistic setting.
Painted during the 1960-1970 by none other than the acclaimed and expert Spanish Big Cats artist:
'Silvia Duran',
Spanish born Silvia Duran studied art with her father and in Bellas Artes de Barcelona.
In England, she was an A level in Art student and received a City and Guilds Certificate.
Her life and work changed forever the day she saw the film ‘Born Free’. She knew then that she wanted to paint the Big Cats and she specialized in these magnificent felines. She was allowed into the Wildlife Parks to sketch and study the animals at close quarters. Many Exhibitions followed, in London, throughout England and New York.
Silvia travelled to Africa to see Lions in their natural habitat. She was invited by the legendary George Adamson to stay at his ‘Kampi Ya Simba’ at Kora. She produced paintings for the WWF, Born Free Foundation, Kora Trust Wildlife Foundation to help the animals. Invited by His Excellency Sheik Khalifa Bin Sulman Alkhalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain to have an Exhibition, her style of work changed. The beautiful island of Bahrain, with its stunningly bright light, intense vibrant colours, flowers, palaces, desert sand and turquoise seas, opened a whole new world for Silvia. Silvia´s home near the sea is graced by the presence of her large family of cats, which are an endless source of inspiration and pleasure.
The above incredibly detailed work is both signed and aptly titled verso: 'Say Cheese Please'.
Duran was truly a master painter of these magnificent beasts! The dried grass which one can see at the bottom of the image was ingeniously applied, and it even has the appearance and feel/texture of real grass.
A rare and superb original Oil Painting, as well as a guaranteed investment piece.
Oil on Canvas
Signed: 'Silvia Duran'

Mounted within the original spectacular deeply swept painted and gilt frame, and offered in an overall good original condition commensurate with age.
Note: To be critical, there are a handful of minute pieces of gesso moulding missing from the outer edges of the original frame, and the painting itself has several very minor foxing spores, together with some light canvas creases, but all in perfect keeping for an original Vintage Painting.
